Pits & Bits: Clean. Light. Anywhere.

Waterless wash & hygiene solutions made for outdoor adventurers, travel and everyday use.

Born from a simple idea - what if you could freshen up after a day in the wild without needing a tap, shower or bucket of water? That's exactly what Pits & Bits delivers: no-water wash solutions, lightweight and effective, designed for hikers, campers, travellers and anyone with an active outdoor lifestyle.

From Idea to Adventure-Ready Hygiene

Founded by siblings Jess and Vic, Pits & Bits began with a simple observation: staying clean while outdoors often meant hauling water, finding a shower or compromising on hygiene. Driven by their passion for outdoor adventure and the environment, the pair sought a better way.

They launched their first water-free body-wash product from a small UK workshop, aiming to create a lightweight, effective solution for hikers, festival-goers, travellers and anyone who wanted to "freshen up" without needing a tap. Their early testing across campsites, mountain huts and road-trips led to what became the signature "Towel-Off" range.

Today, Pits & Bits has grown into a full lineup of waterless washes, shampoos and compostable wipes, all engineered for the rugged needs of outdoor hygiene. Every product stays true to the founding goal: deliver high-performance cleaning with minimal footprint - so adventurers can stay fresh, light and ready for the next leg of the journey.

Why Waterless Hygiene Matters for Modern Adventurers

For today's outdoor enthusiast, staying clean on the move isn't just a comfort - it's part of staying healthy, confident and prepared. Whether tramping through backcountry tracks, road-tripping across New Zealand, or catching flights between long travel days, access to water isn't always guaranteed. Pits & Bits was created with this reality in mind, offering practical hygiene solutions that don't rely on showers, taps or heavy water supplies.

Traditional wash kits often add unnecessary weight, require significant water use or rely on bulky packaging. Pits & Bits eliminates these barriers with compact, lightweight, waterless wash formulas that deliver a thorough clean anywhere - from remote huts to festival campsites. Their Towel-Off technology allows users to cleanse skin and hair without rinsing, making it ideal for tramping, multi-day hikes, cycle tours, van-life travel and international journeys where packing efficiency makes a huge difference.

Beyond convenience, waterless hygiene carries real environmental value. By reducing the need for excessive water consumption and unnecessary single-use plastics, Pits & Bits supports a more sustainable approach to outdoor living. For adventurers who care about minimising personal comfort.

In short, Pits & Bits matters because it solves one of the biggest challenges outdoor explorers face: how to stay clean, refreshed and confident when traditional washing simply isn't possible. It's practical, planet-minded, and designed for anyone who wants to explore further - without compromise.

Clean Anywhere, No Water Needed

Pits & Bits solves one of the biggest challenges for modern adventurers - staying clean when washing facilities are limited or unavailable. Their waterless formulas allow users to freshen up in remote huts, campsites, on multi-day hikes, or while travelling internationally. This makes their range an essential part of any lightweight, adventure-ready hygiene kit.

Step 1. Apply

Step 2. Massage

Step 4. Allow to dry

Step-by-Step Directions

  3. Use a towel or the brand's expanding compostable wipes to wipe off the product and the residues captured.
  4. Your skin or hair will feel refreshed, with minimal water use and lightweight gear in your pack.

Why It Works

  • The waterless formula removes the dependency on taps, showers or large volumes of water - making it perfect for remote tramps, multi-day hikes, van-life travel, festivals or flights.
  • The mechanism lifts and traps dirt and oils without rinsing, so users can skip the rinse-step while still achieving a fresh result.
  • Compact, lightweight and versatile, the system allows for both body and hair hygiene on the go, while supporting an "ultralight" pack strategy.

Cleans Hair Well and Leaves it Full of Body

A small amount is enough to clean mid-length hair, works exactly as described, lathers well and leaves no residue on your hair after towelling off. I found it gave my fine hair lots of volume and body too, and I'll repurchase once this bottle runs out. - Astro

A Fabulous Festival Product

A Fabulous Festival Product

We were very pleasantly surprised at how clever this pack was. A tiny little tablet grew into a full sized flannel, and it worked really well with the liquid. It was like having a full strip wash without the fuss. The shampoo was very good too. Perfect for festivals, it does exactly what it says it does. We bought one box each, but one box between us would have been enough for a 4 day festival. Kudos to the company, we'll certainly be using this product again. - Helen

Camping For Women

Camping For Women

My review of Pits & Bits By Samantha Kent The need to clean and wash on the go, a product has found a wider audience. Generally marketed towards hikers, Festival-goers, campers, and general outdoorsy folk, the pandemic has opened up the appeal of this much more. Pits & Bits is a waterless solution to help keep you clean when you are on the go. It's paraben and Alcohol-free, giving you an alternative to regular hand sanitisers that can become quite drying on the skin when used frequently. Pits & Bits is vegan and cruelty-free too! I tried the shampoo and body wash. Both smelled a little of apple and lemon which was quite a nice clean crisp scent however coconut and unscented are also available! There was no residue that I could feel after washing with it and although the wash cloths needed water to expand, they were easy enough to wring out with little effort however regular towels will do the job just the same. The patch of scalp I used the shampoo on was left feeling very clean, I was actually quite concerned that it wouldn't get rid of dry skin and dandruff but with enough manipulation and when dried off well there was actually very little left behind! The body wash I decided to use on my armpits after a workout. I've yet to put deodorant on after using the wash but I've been left with a pleasant apple scent which is great. The set of body wash, shampoo, and hand towels is reasonably priced too, £7.50 from amazon and £7.49 Direct from the retailer. It comes in varying sizes as well which makes a smaller set perfect for air travel but also handy to store away. The bottles are fairly sturdy and could handle being thrown in a suitcase quite well! I'm genuinely considering buying more as I have days where I will struggle to get into the shower due to my disabilities and this provides a handy quick-fix alternative. So, in summary, this product has a great many uses! I will continue to use it in day to day life as well as out on trips! Perfect for a quick freshen up when you are away from facilities!

Pits and Bits Body Wash Review Nilaqua the makers of Pits and Bits were kind enough to send us over a 100ml squeezy bottle of Towel off Body Wash - Antibacterial and Unfragranced, and a 9 pack of Expandable Wipes. Though as always, the following review is our own independent assessment of the product following a thorough gear test period in the field. Whether you're out on manoeuvres, wild camping, trail running, festival going or just generally taking off on an outdoor adventure this waterless Pits and Bits Body Wash will keep you clean when away from any shower facilities. Simply squeeze out of the bottle, rub in to remove any sweat, grease or mud and then towel down with a micro towel, if you have it to hand. Or you could combine with the Pits and Bits Expandable Wipes for a proper foamy scrub down. Expandable Wipes, if you're unfamiliar with the concept wipes that require a drop of liquid (10ml) to expand into a flannel. Very handy on wild camps anyway, and you could utilise these in the same way by washing yourself down, or adding water to clean your pots and mugs after a camp meal. You could even use them to clean any gear you have, I know a lot of mountain bikers that use them to give the bike a clean down. To use simply apply the body wash directly to the skin, massage to lift dirt then remove by thoroughly towel drying. Different to some waterless body washes, Pits and Bits Body Wash is unfragranced, so there's no fear of entering the pub at the end of your trail run and turning heads (in the unwanted manner) with a funky smell! Not relying on alcohol like conventional sanitisers, it removes dirt/grease from your skin and onto your towel, thus ensuring no loss of essential oils. Though a possible downside could be it freezes at zero like water. Could pose a problem when out on winter wild camps, though I should imagine the warmth of your body, and the warmth inside of the tent should prove sufficient to keep it at liquid/gel form. Though I haven't field-tested this theory as yet! Some of you might of seen the recent Mud and Routes review of MucOff. When I helped out on gear testing this product after a trail run I was very happy with the results, and this Body Wash from Pits and Bits hits the same market. The main difference I see is that the MucOff comes out in foam form, where as the Pits and Bits is liquid gel. This probably boils down to personal preference in the end, the only note I would make is the MucOff doesn't require you to towel off (although recommended), but the Pits and Bits Body Wash is better value for money, as it's at a lower price point. and comes in a larger bottle!
Paddler Magazine Reviews Pits & Bits

Paddler Magazine Reviews Pits & Bits

Whenever I get off the water, I have that lovely sweat aroma you get either from a wetsuit, drysuit or a shirt and t-shirt. Combined with the lovely fresh smell of the water which is not always Evian quality. Usually, it's a stinky drive home, or as we are social beings, it's often nice to go for a post-paddle pint social.I can't say I have ever had a shower before returning to the van. I then came across the company Pits and Bits, claiming to be a waterless cleaning solution, and wanted to try it. After some research, I found that Pits and Bits are marketing a product aimed at the outdoor market; originally, the company released this cleaning solution to help in hospitals when patients need to be cleaned easily. A great idea and one created with a genuine need now branching out to other areas, including medical, outdoors and even pets. So I managed to get hold of both the Towel Off body wash, and the shampoo. First let's talk about the body wash. It's a water-like consistency, so applying is simply a case of filling your hand and splash on where needed, under the armpits. It's then really easy to towel off on a small towel. I always keep a microfibre towel handy. The wash masks any smell and leaves a much more pleasant aroma. Even after a heavy session in 28-degree-plus sunshine and wearing full neoprene, it did a great job. I expected a thicker texture, more like a gel, and this may have made it slightly easier to apply without wasting as much; however, this could have made it sticky, which this wash isn't! It leaves you feeling very fresh! Now the shampoo, which even claims to remove hair gel! Unfortunately, I am not blessed with much hair anymore, so it's only a short test for me. However, the shampoo once lathered into my hair, smelt good and left it feeling much fresher, removing the hat, sweat, and greasy feeling left from paddling. It also gave a little more volume, meaning I wasn't left looking like a sweaty mess or with terrible flat hat hair. I was impressed with both products, and they now live in my van for post-session cleanup. You can also get some compostable expanding tablets that, once wet, expand to leave a wipe similar to the kid's flannels that grow in water. These are ideal for use with the products and another great idea. What was great is they even came packaged in fully recycled packaging, and all instructions for use were on plantable paper, which my daughter is very excited about. The product is simple to use, and I have to say it does exactly what it says on the tin (bottle), an excellent addition for a quick freshen up.
